Parametric Technology Corporation (market cap $800M, 11/03) needed copy for “Innovation Ovation,” a Flash environment celebrating the creativity of the engineers who use the company’s product design software.
What I did
I first wrote promotional e-mails and a form to recruit candidates, then interviewed 22 engineers, audio recording the interviews for future downloads. I then facilitated the selection of 19 “innovators” and wrote profiles of them. As the sub-site came together I revised the copy for the introduction and consulted on navigation and usability.
Page views for Innovation Ovation increased significantly for several weeks after the revised version went live. I like to think my writing contributed to that.
High point: Interviewing an engineer who helped to design the first mechanical human heart. I asked him what he did to relax. “I go out in the woods for a couple of days at a stretch with just a bottle of water and a knife, to get back to my roots,” he said. “Roots?”, I asked. “I’m part Micmac Indian,” he replied.
